Most homes in the Baltimore Metropolitan area that have been built over the past 3 or 4 decades already have a central cooling and heating system built in. Many older homes have also been updated over the years with central air conditioning systems, too. Sometimes these systems work to cool the entire house and sometimes they are designed to cool only part of it.

Unfortunately, many of these systems do not always work to their maximum efficiency as time goes on, or wear out quickly if they are pushed to the limit over and over again. When this happens, these systems tend to use too much electricity – which can cause your energy bills to balloon in the summer time. And more often than not, they completely break down when you need them the most.

Which Central Air Conditioning System is Right for You?
Basically, there are only two types of central air conditioning systems: a split system or a package system. However, there are several factors that go into how to determine which is the best system for your home. Unlike other HVAC companies, Hughes Mechanical will help you make the right choice based on your specific needs and not just on what brands they currently have in stock.

A split system includes an
outdoor metal cabinet (the
condenser and compressor),
and an indoor cabinet that
contains the evaporator coil. The
outdoor cabinet is located next
to the home and the evaporator
coil is located inside the home. In
any split system, the outdoor
and indoor units must be
correctly matched to achieve the
rated efficiency.

In a single-package system, all
of the mechanical parts are
housed in one cabinet, typically
located outside the house.

Ductless Systems

Ductless Cooling & Heating Systems can be useful in certain areas of the home that may require additional cooling or heating. This might be due to the age of the home, a design flaw or because your current central air system does not provide enough output in remote areas of your home. Hughes Mechanical can install a complete ductless Air Conditioning System in less than one day!
